Someone I know on Livejournal put it another way [www.livejournal.com]

Today, most of London took a bit of a day off, which they spent looking around their beautiful city, appreciating it in ways they’d not taken time to recently. Rather than using the hellish tube system, people walked, enjoying the scenery, talking to colleagues and random strangers, smiling at people in a way they normally don’t. Many Londoners either took the opportunity to stay with friends within the capital, or enjoy a night in a hotel, or to make their way home rather more slowly than usual.
Sadly, some people were hurt, and some were killed. But the rest of us are not scared. We’ve been reminded why we live here, why we love our city, why we love our lives. The german bombs of the second world war only strengthened the spirit of Londoners, and events like this will only ever do likewise.

And I think that that is about the best way that anyone can look at such an event.

This is pretty good in my opinion. I doubt that people get more than a few chances to go to an Olympic Games that is in their country, so I will be trying to pick up tickets for some events and stuff so that we can be travelling to London in 7 years time, when hopefully all the stuff will be buillt

Nice one.
