Who would have thought that watching the last episodes of Doctor Who and the last episodes of the House series on the same day would be such a draining experience. Damn those emotional series finales! Both were amazingly good programming. ooer.

Yes it seems I am being quite techy this last week, fiddling about with internet hosts and stuff. Both providers are pretty good on first impressions. It’s going to take me a while to set anything proper up on either of them - especially the dedicated box as that needs me to tinker with it a lot. Well, it doesn’t really need that as it comes fairly well set up, but I desire to tinker. I have forgotten how you can spend ages just fiddling with various different settings on Linux boxes. I think I’ve sorted out the qmail stuff and now I need to have a crack at getting Apache to handle the cgi requests properly. Currently it is not doing so well. Hmm. It’s all quite geeky.

I’m currently experiementing with different web hosts. So this all might change over to elsewhere, or it might not, depending on how good they are. I’ve so far arranged stuff from QIQ and OVH.

So far, OVH is laging behind, because despite a 1 hour suggestion on their website it’s been a day, whereas the QiQ stuff was set up pretty instantly. We’ll see what happens next with that I suppose. Not that there’s particularly anything wrong with my current hosts, but lately things have been a bit slow online so it’s worth casting around. Edit - The OVH server is ready, just took a little nudging.

I have (after some time - almost a year in fact) finally got around to updating my bblogreader plugin. The changes are only minor, but are in response to the comments that I’ve had on the plugin.

You can now choose to exclude entries in the BB logs that are just warnings, and you should also see locally adjusted timings (assuming the code works.)

Another mass panic is at least partly underway here after the government skillfully told people not to panic buy fuel in advance of the upcoming tanker driver strike. Amazingly, it appears, the govenement is too stupid to have learnt from previous panic buying. The two things that it should have learnt are firstly that a whole group of people are actually too stupid to be told anything at all, and secondly that the absolute worst thing you can do is to say “don’t panic buy”, because - of those people who aren’t too stupid to be told anything at all - some of the rest just hear the word “panic” and act on it. The even more absolute worst thing (if such a thing exists) is to announce “don’t panic buy but by the way some stations are going to run out of petrol“. That truely displays mastery of communication.
