We were woken up this morning (literally, on the radio alarm) to the announcement that Michael Jackson, legendary pop icon, had died.  This is truely a sad day for music.  Despite a turbulent past few years, Jackson is credited with a fine list of musical history, which includes the biggest selling album of all time, Thriller.

I expect that many people have appeciated his music over the years, and many still will, long after today. 

So RIP Michael Jackon.

Lately there have been a few thunder storms here.  I mean, we don’t get thunder storms like they do in the tropics, but we sometimes get the odd bit.  Last week for example it dropped a ton of rain in hardly any time at all, with the traditional sound and vision alongside.  Today there was more thunder (though no rain, oddly).  

I was still shocked though to see this story.  16 Cows died at once in a lightning strike, carried across their field by the puddle they were stood in.  Poor cows.  Not told of the dangers of sheltering under a tree in a storm, it would seem.

Not that it’s any safer in the traditional human domicide, it would seem.

The story of last week (apart from all the election kerfuffle) was the disappearnace of Air France flight 447 over the Atlantic Ocean. After some wide-scale searching, items and bodies have now been found, electronic error transmissions have been noted, yet it is possible that we may never know the full story of what happened to this plane.  It is a mystery and a sad loss wrapped up in one. 

Elsewhere in the happenings, we see the 6th win out of 7 races for Jenson Button, taking the Turkish Grand Prix ahead of Webber and Vettel.  This now puts him on 61 points coming into the British GP in two weeks’ time.  Today’s race was essentially lost by Vettel after a slip-up on the opening lap, otherwise it could have been a quite different result.  As it was, Button commanded most of the race, with his team-mate suffering from crashes and eventually retiring.
