It appears that someone has driven a flaming jeep into the Glasgow Airport terminal building entrance [news.bbc.co.uk]. Not much in the way of detail available right now, except that two men were involved and one was on fire at one point. There does not appear to have been any injuries, remarkably.

Obviously nothing is going in or out of Glasgow airport just now. Edinburgh airport is still open but not for traffic, which is being kept away.

Dry?

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

This week has mostly been about after the flooding [news.bbc.co.uk] with places very slowly getting cleaned up and opened again. Some luckier than others of course. And this weekend we have more rain on the way [news.bbc.co.uk]. I did get into the office, but only at the end of the week once they’d opened the motorway.

Flood!

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Well well well. So yesterday after it raining for a million years straight it all caught up with Sheffield and we were deluged with flooding.

Around the corner

That’s the river that became of the road around the corner.

It took Laura 3.5 hours to drive a windy route home avoiding flooding to do a journey that normally takes about 15 minutes.

Here’s what some other folk had to say about it [news.bbc.co.uk]. Meadowhall centre and the surrounding areas got hit pretty badly. Apparently so did the Chesterfield area, though luckily I hadn’t travelled in to work because of an unrelated incident earlier in the day that closed the motorway junction.

Talking of the motorway, here it is

empty motorway

Completely empty, because they’ve closed it around our junction for safety reasons since a dam is close to bursting and could flood the road if it went [news.bbc.co.uk].

Considering the chaos around us, we’ve actually been quite lucky on our dry, powered, hill. ooer.

Back again

So I am back.  I’ve been in Center Parcs Sherwood for the past week.  It was mostly good, with my main gripes being over the ridiculously small second rooms they have, and the general shabiness of some of the place. We did a fair few activities, including Archery (quite fun), Sherwood Banquet (fun since we dressed up and got really into it), swimming and stuff.  Packed loads into Saturday when Mr Bobs was around.

Also played on the Wii a fair bit.  And then, due to my extreme lack of willpower, went and bought one on Monday.  It’s a lot of fun. :D

Last night our cats broke out of the cat flap (as in, they literally broke it by forcing the plastic flap past the “lock”).  Of course that left them stuck outside, in the rain.  So I opened the door up this morning to three very wet looking cats.  Naughty things they are.

Today at work they announced that another load of people will be made redundant.  Bit rubbish. Apparently I and most of my immediate co-workers are not in scope, but some people are.

Finally, in random news, volunteers are being searched for for a 17 month experiment to judge how people might deal with a journey to Mars [news.bbc.co.uk].  Sign up now folk!

This week

Monday, June 11th, 2007

This week I shall mostly be not present online.  When I come back I expect that I will be changing this blog over to a Wordpress blog. I have been experimenting and I think it is time to make the switch over.

So see you all in about a week and a bit!
