I found this story quite amusing. In the run up to the 2008 Beijin Olympics, China is clamping down on bad English [news.bbc.co.uk], currently often seen in places were English is mis-translated from the Chinese, such as on street signs or menus.

Some of the examples were great

Emergency exits at Beijing airport read "No entry on peacetime" and the Ethnic Minorities Park is named "Racist Park".

Hi folk! I thought I’d drop an entry into my weblog because I haven’t done one for a while. Mostly we’ve been getting on with normal life and such. At the moment I’m adding quite a few photos into the gallery and entering challenges on DPChallenge [www.dpchallenge.com]. So photography is going on.

Laura has been working as a supply teacher for the past week or so, and work seems to be coming in steadily now, which is good. She has a cold at the moment though. boo
After ages drinking Soya milk thinking that my body didn’t like normal cow milk, I’ve stopped doing that now after experimenting and finding out that it wasn’t the case. hah. Ahh well! No more cardboard milk for me.

Other than that, what else? Not a lot. Saw Children of Men at the cinema yesterday. Fairly good dramatic film, quite bleak but also believable. Unnecessary jumpy explosion thing near the start was a minus point, but other than that I thought it fairly good.

Also took the computer apart and replaced the motherboard, PSU and graphics card, because the old one (one component or another) stopped working properly and was making graphics go all odd. So now the computer can play games faster (though I’m a bit limited CPU wise as they seem to have stopped making socket 939 x2s. boo).
