Saddam Hussein executed

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

So this morning at 0300GMT Saddam Hussein was hanged in Iraq [news.bbc.co.uk]. Hardly marking the end of anything, other than his life, as the extreme violence in Iraq continues unabated.

Was it worthwhile? Probably not. But in a system that still employs the death penalty, he got what anyone else would have got. Whilst pondering over the death penalty for Saddam, it is right to consider that hundreds of other people suffer that same fate without any news coverage, or any mention at all.

Five Years Old!

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Wow, in a fantastic piece of meta-news, I just noticed that this blog is now five years old! The first entry was my welcome entry on the 28th December 2001 and was, strangely enough, about turkey. No, not Turkey the country, just plain old turkey. Turkey sandwiches in fact. And now, five years later, we also have way too much turkey, and would be eating sandwiches had the meat not been frozen and stored away for use in curries. yes.

Other events from 2001 included –

The September 11th twin towers attack.
England beating Germany 5-1 in Munich.
400 refugees from Afghanistan were refused entry to Australia.
Foot and Mouth disease was detected in pigs in the UK, leading to mass slaughter of animals.
Stuart Lubbock died in Barrymore’s pool.
And Jeffrey Archer was jailed.

Mid-Christmas week thing

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Today is the bit in-between Christmas and the New Year, which takes place shortly. We’ve eaten lots of turkey, and placed even more of it into the freezer for future consumption.

Christmas was good to me, and I have had lots of nice things, to add to our collection of things. I now even have a light tent for use with photographing some of the things, and the other day I even managed to fold it up and get it back into its container.

In other news, my feedback form on this site has just stopped working. It looks like the formail handler no longer exists. I guess it must have been purged because it was insecure, or something. Which means I need to find a new one to replace it. oo-la-la!

A new adaption of Dracula was on the BBC last night, it was a bit rubbish. The Dracula character was fairly limp and not very powerful and impressive. Bah!

Pet Love

Monday, December 18th, 2006

American Ted Dres probably didn’t bargain on being strangled to death by his pet Boa Constrictor [news.bbc.co.uk] when he bought it. That’s probably one of the dangers.

In other odd news, Indian feamle athlete Santhi Soundararajan has failed a gender test [news.bbc.co.uk] and will lose her Asian Games silver medal. That’s really strange.

Wii comes to UK shops

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

Aye. It looks like I’ve not updated in here for quite a while. As it goes, time files doesn’t it? It’s almost the end of another year. They are choosing the BBC Sports personality of the year just now on TV.

Here’s a random photo of Missy and Charlie, so that this isn’t a text only entry -

Missy and Charlie

Apart from the appearance of the Wii [news.bbc.co.uk] in the stores in the UK, there’s not a lot of front page goings-on that I feel like commenting on, so I won’t.

In our news, it’s drawing closer to Christmas, so that means that we need to get the house in order for when Laura’s family arrives. They are staying here for Christmas. It also means that I need to finish getting some presents, and the neighbours decorate their houses with ever-more insanely bright sets of lurid decorations.
