Real life terminal guy

Thursday, June 30th, 2005

A real life copy of The Terminal [www.imdb.com], where a ex-Kenyan has been living in a duty free section of an airport for the past year, has been given a UK passport [news.bbc.co.uk]. That is quite funky.

Richard Whiteley

Sunday, June 26th, 2005

Countdown presenter and long-term face of channel 4 Richard Whiteley has died at the age of 61 [news.bbc.co.uk]. He was recovering slowly after being hit by pneumonia in May, but died today.

He had presented Countdown on Channel 4 since 1982, with Carol Vorderman the maths guru. Quite a well known figure who will be missed, I would say. RIP.

singer Jackson found not guilty

Tuesday, June 14th, 2005

Singer Michael Jackson has been found not guilty on all counts in his four momnth long trial.

I for one am glad of this. Hopefully this will bring an end to the money grabbing attempts that have been going on against Jackson for years. Though that is probably too much to expect.

Still at least in some times justice can be done even in the strangest and most celebrity of stages.

Pay Per Mile

Sunday, June 5th, 2005

Sigh. Pay as you go road charging [news.bbc.co.uk] looks to be the next thing on the Government’s mind. Another useless concept. This one would, of course, directly impact on people like me, people who have to travel to work across some distance, because I’d either have to pay over-the-odds to drive on the motorway, or be stuck in queues with all the traffic that gets forced off the motorway and onto the city streets.

Schemes like this don’t fix the traffic problem, they just make it worse in different areas, but, of course, it wont matter to the uber-rich or the people who travel on the tube, so the “country” (ie London) will lap it up.
