Lightsaber madness

Tuesday, May 24th, 2005

Really, I mean, did they not think about this at all? [news.bbc.co.uk]. Two people decided that they would have a fake lightsaber duel. But rather than buying them in a shop like sane people, they decided to construct their own out of empty light bulb tubes and flaming petrol.

Strangely enough, one exploded. If they died it would be a fair contender for a Darwin award [www.darwinawards.com] methinks. You have to wonder if some people actually engage their brains before acting.

How long before someone claims it was the film’s fault? ;)

Kylie and Consoles

Wednesday, May 18th, 2005

The news of the past few days is that singer Kylie Minogue has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer [news.bbc.co.uk]. She has suspended her tour whilst she starts on treatment. I think that it is good that she made the knowledge public. Hopefully it will help her to fight it, and raise some awareness too.

The new PS3 has been launched [news.bbc.co.uk]. Sony says that its specs are better than the XBox 360. We shall wait and see which one triumphs, hopefully not Microsoft really as they have too much dominance of the computer world already in my opinion. I wonder what the price will be?

Travels and reading

Sunday, May 15th, 2005

Strangely, there’s a news article saying that the British are very complacent when it comes to travelling and Malaria [news.bbc.co.uk].

Surveys have suggested that a majority of people do not take health advice before travelling abroad and often do not have enough time to arrange medicines.

I find this quite mad, one of the first things I would want to sort out about any holiday that I took would be the vaccinations and things, it’d be quite crazy to risk getting Malaria or similar for not taking a few tablets. :o
Something I found quite sad was that a woman has died after falling from Ben Nevis in Scotland [news.bbc.co.uk]. The mountain has a travelled tourist path, but is apparently often shrouded in cloud. It just seems quite sad that someone should get lost and fall off.

In happier news, JK Rowling is to launch the latest Harry Potter novel in Edinburgh Castle [news.bbc.co.uk], to an audience of media and children competition winners. The event will be broadcast on the tv and radio, and after the initial unveiling and reading the children get a Harry Potter style banquet, which would be quite funky. Of course, I am too old for that ;)

More on Jackson

Wednesday, May 11th, 2005

Well well well, I’m falling behind a bit with the old updates here.

Still, the Jackson trial is progressing, today actor Macaulay Culkin took the stand [news.bbc.co.uk] and denied that Jackson ever touched him. The defence seems to be going pretty well so far from all the sounds of it.

labour win third term

Friday, May 6th, 2005

Labour have won the election [news.bbc.co.uk], bringing in a third term for the party. The lib dems have won more seats than they have since the 1920s [news.bbc.co.uk]. This is all fairly good in my opinion. I would have not liked to see the tories back in, that would have created a complete mess. It’s also good to see the lib dems making an impact, because the more impact that they make the more seriously they could be taken next time. :)
