Doctor Who?

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

It really is a case of Doctor, who, now as the current Doctor Who has announced his intention not to do the next series after the airing of only a single episode. Eccleston apparently doesn’t want to be typecast into the role. Speculation already abounds as to who will replace him in the next season [news.bbc.co.uk].

Shark Attack

Wow, it’s almost a real life jaws thing [news.bbc.co.uk]. Proper great-white-shark-attacking-arama. :D

Tiny hard drives and clocks that run away

Friday, March 25th, 2005

A couple of things have caught my eye in the past few days.

Firstly, there’s via slashdot [slashdot.org] a story about a cheeky alarm clock that will roll off and hide if you try to snooze [media.mit.edu]. This sort of invention could be the end of thousands of students and workers missing classes and meetings.

If you snooze your furry clock, then it will roll off the table and randomly roll around until it stops in a suitable place, its memory recording which way it went so it can move differently next time. Then you will have to get out of bed and look for the clock to turn it off :D

Magic. So long as the clock comes with a radio alarm it could be quite useful :)
The other thing that I noticed was a story about a teeny hard drive [www.theregister.co.uk]. It’s so cute! practical applications are small devices and stuff, but, really, who cares when it’s as small as that :D
That’s all for now. Later on I should have a picture for this week’s photo friday.

Guns, Shootings, and roads

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2005

Stories like this sad story from America, with 9 people being killed [news.bbc.co.uk] I think show that our fairly tough anti-gun laws do actually work to some extent. Whilst shootings like this aren’t a regular occurance in the US I think they happen more than over here.

of course, the flip side of that really is that, whenever the police here react to a maniac with force, the eye is turned on them [news.bbc.co.uk]. The latest I’ve heard is that the man who was rampaging down the wrong way on the A63 brandishing a weapon was a "devout Christian" and I have no doubt it won’t be long until we hear that he would have never hurt a fly.

Yeah. Maybe. But to be honest I’d prefer that our police are left to do their job, with deadly force if necessary.
