Work = no

Thursday, February 24th, 2005

Today I did not get very far in my quest to go to work. Here is a picture showing how far my car got out of the drive -

As you can see, I made it about half way up the drive :o

Lea and Perrins is okay

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005

Worcestershire sauce manufacturer Lea & Perrins want to make it clear that Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce is not involved in the latest food scare [news.bbc.co.uk] so please to carry on buying and consuming this product, assuming that you like it. :)

Edinburgh Congestion Charge Defeated

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005

The people of Edinburgh have voted a massive no to a proposed congestion charge [news.bbc.co.uk] that would have imposed a two pounds a day charge on motorists entering the inner city centre or the ring road area during the rush hour.

People voted in good numbers to reject the proposal with more than 74% saying no thanks.

It would be a bit silly in my opinion. Congestion charges such as this are not really any kind of “solution” at all, they simply become another tax on the road users. There has to be a suitable alternative before you can say that cars shouldn’t be there. The inner cordon looked somewhat less ridiculous than the outer one, but, overall, still not that great.

One of the main objections was that people outside the cordon were being unfairly treated as they had no alternative in place.

The no vote essentially kills this for Edinburgh, and other cities were said to be watching the progress carefully.

Snow snow snow

Monday, February 21st, 2005

So today I started at my latest job, and guess what, yes, it starts to snow everywhere! [news.bbc.co.uk]. I mean, why it couldn’t snow last week or something when I wasn’t working I do not know ;)
Anyway, brain controlled robotic arms [news.bbc.co.uk]. Whatever next eh? That’s quite clever. Even though so far they have only done it on chimps and they admit that actually replicating hand movments is still out of their league. So, a little progress from hooks, I guess.

More food have been added to the list of foods to be removed from shop shelves because of cancer causing agents in them [news.bbc.co.uk]. Apparently the news is taking its time to filter down, and some smaller shops are a bit clueless of the whole thing, especially if they lack internet access.

Marge’s sister Patty has been revealed as the gay Simpson’s character [news.bbc.co.uk] in an episode that has already aired in the US. Homer becomes a licensed person to conduct gay marriages in what must be a fairly bizarre episode, I imagine. Not sure how long we will have to wait to get it over here in the UK mind :)

Beckham surname mix up

Sunday, February 20th, 2005

It looks that the Beckhams have accidentally given their new son a surname as his first name [news.bbc.co.uk], naming them, as they have “Cruz”. (Cruz is cross in Spanish.) The baby’s week early arrival must have shocked them into giving the kid the wrong sort of name. Still, I suppose it is no more ridiculous than all the others in the growing trend for more and more arcanely different names in order to appear special, or something.
