It’s Oscar’s night

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

Well it’s that time of the year again, when the Oscars [www.oscars.com] happen. Hollywood has set out the massive red carpet [news.bbc.co.uk] all ready for the Oscar stars to walk down and such.

Oscar nominations are led by The Aviator [news.bbc.co.uk] with Finding Neverland and Million Dollar Baby also up in the running.

A full list of Oscar nominees for this year can be seen here [www.oscars.com]. Looks like there are some tight calls in there. Will Scorsese come out with best director after being nominated so many times before? We shall see.

In other news, The pope has waved from his window [news.bbc.co.uk]. Though, really, when someone waving reaches the news you probably should be a little concerned about their continued longeivity.

That’s about all for just now.

Red Hot Pawn (Again)

Saturday, February 26th, 2005

I have noticed a couple of comments coming through on my entry from ages ago about Red Hot Pawn [www.redhotpawn.com] the chess site.

One guy asked for their phone number because the site is down. I don’t have their phone number, but the site is down for unexpected (but needed) maintainence and should be up any time now. It was meant to be up about now actually.

Testing Comments

Saturday, February 26th, 2005

Just a quick test. raaaa. Things have been updated by my web host again. Still not much better than before really but it should now mean that things are working four times out of five instead of two times out of five.

If you see random perl error messages when posting comments then please just reload the page.

Big cash in

Friday, February 25th, 2005

The family of someone who died in hospital after being moved to accommodate Michael Jackson are apparently going to sue Jackson over the incident [news.bbc.co.uk]. This is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard lately.

It kinda saddens me that their reaction to the event is to try and lever cash out of Jackson rather than deal with their loss. The fact that it would have had nothing to do with Mr Jackson which room he went in and who was in it before him seems to have escaped their notice.

The digital divide between rich and poor nations is closing [news.bbc.co.uk], which is good, really. I wonder if the same can be said for poor people living within rich nations. Probably not. That gap is probably growing.

Hot lollipop [news.bbc.co.uk]. And why not?

Rogue Agents…

Thursday, February 24th, 2005

It appears like the scam for premium rate rogue diallers [www.theregister.co.uk] is now changing towards rogue diallers that use 0871 numbers instead [www.theregister.co.uk]. These charge less per minute when people dial up but are less easily detected by users and telcos.

So keep a watch on your dialer and such. :)
Oh, and of course, Today brings the week’s heaviest snow [news.bbc.co.uk]. Heh.
