Film Review - Shrek 2

Monday, June 28th, 2004

Shrek 2 brings back our old favourites Shrek, Donkey and Princess whatshername for another adventure. Some of the secondary characters make an appearance too, and we see the introduction of Puss In Boots, very well characterised by Antonio Banderas.

Shrek was funny, original, well paced and flowing. Shrek 2 is most of those thing, but lacks some of the originality and ease of the first one. I think the laughter was a bit forced at times, and it came across that they were just trying a little bit too hard to make the film work.

It is still good, it just does not compare brilliantly to the first one. Worth a look.

Film Review - Jersey Girl

Monday, June 28th, 2004

Jersey Girl was not the film that I expected it to be. It was very amusing and I was more impressed than expected. The idea is that a New York publicist leaves the rat race behind after his wife dies in childbirth. He goes from being all work, work, work to being mr family down to earth guy, and picks up a love interest on the way.

Okay, the plot is a little predictable but never mind, it is still funny and entertaining. Yes. Go see.

I randomly browsed onto this technology article on bbc news about censorship [news.bbc.co.uk]. I found it quite interesting, because it talks of BT silently blocking pages on the Internet and it raises a few interesting questions. How *do* we know that the page really has not been found, or if it is simply against the wishes of whatever group that you are allowed to see it?

Hmm.
