Film - Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban
Monday, May 31st, 2004I thought that, since I see so many films at the cinema these days, I should start writing up short reviews of them in my blog. Today’s review is of the new Harry Potter film.
It’s the third in the series, and some familirity with either the characters or the book itself is assumed. You are thrown in to the story and will have difficulty following or getting the most out of this film if you have not seen its predecessor(s) or read the book(s). That said it’s enjoyable enough in its own right.
The film covers Harry’s third year at Hogwarts, the escape of the dangerous murderor Sirius from Azkaban prison, and the resultant adventures as Harry and his friends become involved in the Dementor prison guards attempts to recapture Sirius.
This is an enjoyable film, with a PG rating, which I would say is quite deserved if not a little low, because the film is fairly dark in parts and has its jumpy moments. I wouldn’t recommend this for young children. I would recommend it to most other people, as it’s pretty well done.
The film is fairly faithful to the book’s storyline, with a few alterations to adapt the length and detail for the big screen. If anything I could say that the film appeared slightly on the short side and somewhat lacking in the mid-section, but I think to have added every detail would have made it overly long, so the balance was probably right.
Yes go see. I shall award this film 7.5/10.
