To Be Honest

Saturday, November 23rd, 2002

I mentioned this briefly the other day, but…

One thing is really bugging me lately, and that is the phrase

“To be honest”

I’m using it *all the fecking time*. I stick it on the end of sentances, I stick it at the start of sentances and, in the unlikely event that I don’t use it, I say “to be fair” instead. And it fucks me off no end.

Not only that, but it’s infectious. Everyone is saying it now. Even the other day Moyles used it on Radio One as I was driving home, everyone at work is using it in meetings and suchlike, it’s bloody going everywhere. It’s on TeeVee too.

I’m getting right sick of it, to be honest.

Headache

I have one. It’s nasty. I need bed. More later.

House

Friday, November 22nd, 2002

I have been waiting for about three weeks now with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happening. God it’s so painfully annoyingly slow.

Loopy

I pick up my shiny new car tomorrow. I’m getting myself one of those new Vectra things. It’ll be black and have parking sensors that beep at me so I can reverse with impunity without driving into cars. Not that I do that anyway but they will be quite useful for squeezing into gaps. Yes. And hopefully the car will drive in a straight line without me continually turning right.

An eight-day fire fighter strike has started [news.bbc.co.uk]. I imagine everyone wanted to avoid it but then the government offered 4% instead of the 16 they said they were going to, so that kind of broke down the talks a bit.

A study has concluded that road tolls would reduce congestion on the M25 [news.bbc.co.uk]. Gee, I wonder how much people get paid to decide *that*? It’s hardly rocket science is it? Of course that would reduce congestion on the M25, because everyone would try and use another route to avoid paying. Moo.

There’s no friday five this week. I’ll do cheap plastic stuff tomorrow at some point… :)

Mid

Wednesday, November 20th, 2002

It’s that midweek time again when I make a bit of a blog update. The mouldy soup hasn’t changed even though I gave it more air, so that’s disappointing. I’ll have cheap plastic stuff again this friday though.

A few news things I wanted to mention…

Early clinical trials of a cervical cancer vaccine have been 100% successful, which means that a vaccine could be available within five years [news.bbc.co.uk] which is good. Cervical cancer is the second biggest cancer amongst women.

With an impending 8 day firefighter strike military top dog Sir Michael Boyce has commented that the forces would be overstretched by both fire duties and a campaign in Iraq [news.bbc.co.uk]. We can’t do it is his view, though the PM seems to believe otherwise. I thought we weren’t having a war though, bit odd all this talking about a war we’re not having isn’t it?

Public Autopsy [news.bbc.co.uk]. Would you want to watch? Morbid curiosity anyone? Or is it scientific interest? Or "art".
