Africa Action Plan

Friday, June 28th, 2002

The G8 Africa Action Plan [news.bbc.co.uk] has been broadly welcomed by African leaders, though it’s been mentioned that things need to go into effect sooner rather than later.

The plan aims to eradicate Polio and establish peacekeeping forces, amongst other things. When I first read about it I thought it said "eradicate police", which was a bit confusing, to say the least.

I will have cheap plastic stuff on here soon. Just need to go into town first.

When was the last time I …

1. …sent a handwritten letter?

Way too long ago. We’re talking years now. And I used to write bloody long letters too, pages and pages.. Somehow I don’t seem to fit them in any more.

2. …baked something from scratch or made something by hand?

Hahahahahahahahaha. Erm, probably when I was in school I did this.

3. …camped in a tent?

I’ve not camped in a tent since I went to the Reading Festivel years and years and years ago. And even then that wasn’t a proper tent as it had missing tent poles.

4. …volunteered your time to church, school, or community?

I have very rarely ever done this, being completely self-centered.

5. …helped a stranger?

A couple of days ago when I gave directions. Usually though I get asked in supermarkets to reach to things on high shelves for small people.

As a favour, and because I’m in that sort of mood right now, I will mention that the word wanker does not adequately describe a certain Derek Johnston and he really should pay back stuff that he owes to people. Thank you.

The [bad word] landlord has [bad word] sold the [bad word] house I was supposed to be [bad word] renting giving me one day to find another house before I’m supposed to [bad word] start my new [bad word] job. [bad word].
:(
*Why* [bad word] advertise for a [bad word] tennant if you know you’re selling your [bad word] house? [bad word].

The G8 summit meeting has agreed to wipe $1 bn from the debts of 22 African states [news.bbc.co.uk]. Aid agencies say that this isn’t enough. It was compared with the $40 bn that was allocated to defence by the US after September 11th last year. Compared to that this is a drop in a very big ocean. Other things have also been talked about.

Sport of the day

Ronaldo sent Brazil through to the World Cup Final [news.bbc.co.uk]. There they will meet Germany, for the first time ever, I think.

In a cracking match Sampras was knocked out of the Wimbledon tennis tournament [news.bbc.co.uk]. At the moment, it looks like Agassi might be going out too, he is 2-0 down in sets. (Actually whilst I’ve been sat here he’s just lost, too.)
