It’s very sensible

Ridiculous

Someone is suing Diners Club because they declined his credit card in a shop [news.bbc.co.uk] which apparently makes it appear as though he is financially unsound because the word "declined" appeared on a reciept.

Hmmmmmmmm. I have to wonder, who has he been showing the reciept to? It surely doesn’t show anything to anyone unless he’s gone to all his friends showing this reciept, because noone else is going to care less. I’ve never heard such a stupid thing, another example of compensation culture going mad.

Well, I hope if he goes ahead that the biggest award for damages is to the amount of 1p. That’s how much it should be worth. 1p for such a silly thing. 1p for thinking that you’re better than anyone else who has ever had a card declined, and to think that it actually means that your reputation is damaged by it. How sound is the idea of suing over a declined card? I ask who would have known about it had the case not become public knowledge through his own actions? Probably noone. There certainly seems to be something wrong if someone has to go to court to defend his character against this alleged slur, if people can’t see past that then it seems as though the guy has bigger problems.

I loved your comments and are in total agreement with you on this one. The guys a fool (I don’t dare using a stronger word as he may sue!)

He’s an idiot - I had my card declined when we went to a zoo once, so P paid with his card instead. Yes, it was mildly embarrassing, but it wasn’t worth making a big fuss over! There was nothing wrong with the card in the end, just a system problem.

I had some stupid company nick some money from my account without my authorisation, and that resulted in a card being declined. They still haven’t paid back what they nicked after nearly a year, so I am going to sue them for damages for the embarrassment as well as for the money they owe me.

I’m guessing he might actually have been financially unsound if his card was declined - except for rare occasions, it does tend to mean that the cardholder has overindulged somewhat. Either that or someone at Diners Club was spying on him, laughing hysterically, recording the whole thing on his mobile phone and showing all his mates!
