Someone is suing Diners Club because they declined his credit card in a shop [news.bbc.co.uk] which apparently makes it appear as though he is financially unsound because the word "declined" appeared on a reciept.
Hmmmmmmmm. I have to wonder, who has he been showing the reciept to? It surely doesn’t show anything to anyone unless he’s gone to all his friends showing this reciept, because noone else is going to care less. I’ve never heard such a stupid thing, another example of compensation culture going mad.
Well, I hope if he goes ahead that the biggest award for damages is to the amount of 1p. That’s how much it should be worth. 1p for such a silly thing. 1p for thinking that you’re better than anyone else who has ever had a card declined, and to think that it actually means that your reputation is damaged by it. How sound is the idea of suing over a declined card? I ask who would have known about it had the case not become public knowledge through his own actions? Probably noone. There certainly seems to be something wrong if someone has to go to court to defend his character against this alleged slur, if people can’t see past that then it seems as though the guy has bigger problems.
Today is of course World Cup Final Day [news.bbc.co.uk] so that means that millions of girlfriends and wives might get their boyfriends and husbands back tomorrow (and vice-versa) after people stop watching the football.
I will be back with more later, after I finish my OU assignment which absolutely must be done today.
I’ve found a house and put an offer in. I shall say no more lest this one falls through. Heh.
News items of note today were -
Tim Henman scraps through into the next round at Wimbledon [news.bbc.co.uk]. He won 7-6 (8-6) 3-6 7-6 (10-8) 6-1 against Wayne Ferreira in what must have been a tough battle for him. Let’s see how far he can get this year ![]()
In Korea, A South Korean patrol boat has been sunk in a naval battle with North Korea [news.bbc.co.uk] at least four Koreans died in the incident with lots being wounded. North Korea does not recognise the border it went over, and has not responded about the incident.
In arizona with fires still burning, some folk are returning to their homes, some to find nothing left [www.msnbc.com]. Fire crews are still fighting the blaze.
I *will* do the Cheap Plastic Stuff of the week soon…
Somehow, someone’s rant about self install ADSL [news.bbc.co.uk] made it into the BBC news front page. Who is it, I wonder? I also wonder if BT will ever be made to listen to the countless numbers of people demanding their exhanges are upgraded to allow ADSL, when they keep harping on about “lack of demand”.
The driver of the coach that was involved in an accident in France earlier this week may be charged with manslaughter [news.bbc.co.uk] over the death of one of the girls. This is always a possibility under French law which encourages criminal investigations. He says he swerved when he noticed he was on the wrong road, and he didn’t fall asleep, though why the thing turned over is anyone’s guess.
Cheap Plastic Stuff to follow…
