Ideas and guidelines. The General Medical Council is to put forward a list of suggestions for when it believes that life-prolonging treatment might be withheld [news.bbc.co.uk]. This comes in the wake of a few highly publicized right-to-die cases. The guidelines are supposed to pertain to when patients have the knowledge of what is going on, and not necessarily to cases where the patient has no control over the situation.
