More tea vicar?

Friday, March 29th, 2002

Well it seems that we’re not using as much tea from India as we used to [news.bbc.co.uk]. The UK has turned to cheaper countries to get tea from. I bet that’s why so much tea tastes poor these days. Tea is a delicate art. They should be more careful.

Are we really here?

If you have any kind of philosophical nature, you might find some of the games on this site [philosophers.co.uk] entertaining. In particular I tried the strange new world game [philosophers.co.uk]. You can go straight into the game without the intro by clicking here [philosophers.co.uk]. For the sake of general information I chose the heroic argument. I also tried the Morality game [philosophers.co.uk] and my moral parsimony Score was 67%. Actually though most of my answers were high moral parsimony except for my one about scale which was 3% and dragged my average down lots. I think that’s because I read one of the questions wrong. :)
I’ll be back with the cheap plastic stuff in the afternoon.

Religious Questions

Thursday, March 28th, 2002

I’m mostly closest to being Wiccan myself, of which there are relatively few decent web sites around to answer your questions. Sometimes Christian people like to suggest that you consider Christianity as your source of guidance. That’s obviously what happened to the owner of this site [geocities.com] too, as she took the time to reproduce this set of questions that anyone who might want her to convert to Christianity should be able to answer [geocities.com]. Also take a look at this page [geocities.com] too where she seems to slightly change her mind and states that she’s re-writing the questionaire. I wouldn’t re-write it though, I mean then you might miss out on such gems as -

"If a Catholic, justify the Inquisition and other persecutions of “heretics” throughout the centuries, concentrating on why the Pelagianists, the Priscillianists, and the Manichaeans were persecuted; if a Protestant, justify the witch trials and the way that Protestants constantly hunted down native Americans until there were so few that the government could simply take their land; if a member of an Eastern Orthodox church, justify the persecutions of the Old Believers after the reforms of the seventeenth century."

and

"All of the various Christian denominations ignore parts ofthe Bible, usually because those parts of the Bible are inconvenient. Explain which parts of the Bible your sect ignores, and explain why it is OK to ignore those parts of the Bible."

and some of the other classic questions in there that have been well thought out, though as the site’s owner says some of them have a sharp cynical edge. (But hey, that’s ok with me, I like cynical.)

Thanks to Mr Rhys [rmsith.org.uk] for setting me onto this one… :)

Heh

I just read this article about New Zealand banning the keeping of ferrets as pets [reuters.co.uk]. Apparently they eat the kiwi. Ferrets that is, not the New Zealanders. Well, they probably do too, in the kiwi burgers. But anyway ferrets smell so they are imposing a fine of up to $100000 NZ and up to five years in jail for breeding ferrets. Now that’s sensible sentancing policy.

Foggy

Thursday, March 28th, 2002

It’s foggy this morning. Last night I played Civilization III [civ3.com] for ages, so didn’t make any more blog entries. Today I hear in the news that tributes are coming in for comedian and actor Dudley Moore who died on Wednesday [news.bbc.co.uk]. Much of his work was before my time, but I do remember chuckling at some of his films. Also it seems to me that lately a lot of great actors and renowned people are dying, and I wonder how many people of that same "level" will be around when I am older. I mean, who are the big actors and whatnot of today? Or will the biggest shocks be things like some guy called Paul leaving S-Club 7 [News.bbc.co.uk].
