Rumblings

Sunday, March 31st, 2002

An earthquake has struck Taiwan [news.bbc.co.uk], measuring around 6.8 on the richter scale. It also caused a small Tsunami which hit the island of Yonahuni off Japan. The story here says that the Tsunami measured 20cm high. [Reuters.co.uk]

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother dies

Saturday, March 30th, 2002

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother has died age 101 [news.bbc.co.uk], it was announced today by the Palace. She died peacefully in her sleep this afternoon. The [news.bbc.co.uk] BBC news site has a page of tributes from readers here and they also have the Queen Mother’s life in pictures here [news.bbc.co.uk].

How affected are we all by this? I don’t know. I imagine for many it will be a case of their favourite TV shows being replaced for a week. I guess only a few people knew her personally, though she probably touched the lives of quite a few more. Myself, I tend to see death fairly philosophically. There’s essentially two possibilites in my view, either the “soul” continues into another level of existance, or the essence of the dead person’s being simply blinks out. Either way the only person truely affected in the deepest sense is the person who has died. In which case I wish the best upon her soul.

Filmage

Saturday, March 30th, 2002

We did some filming last night for our video. It was quite painful. I now appreciate why films have such things as scripts, and direction. Ours really has none of that, or any plot, though it does have some poor quality clay animation.

In motor racing Juan Pablo Montoya has taken pole position ahead of Schumacher for the Brazilian Grand Prix tomorrow. At least he’s giving the guy a fight this year.

Friday Cheap Plastic Stuff

Friday, March 29th, 2002

Today’s cheap plastic stuff is the Play N Learn centre. It’s a plastic marvel. The play n’ learn thing allows many different options of playing and learning. There is time, a countey thing, movable sums, and some kind of etch a sketch that doesn’t quite work. All this for the bargain price of one pound. The play N learn is about 30 cm by 25cm. If only the write on bit worked. You can view the plastic stuff here.

Friday Five time

Friday, March 29th, 2002

Okay, here’s today’s Friday Five [Fridayfive.org].

1. If you could eat dinner with and “get to know” one famous person (living or dead), who would you choose?

Probably Alyson Hannigan.

2. Has the death of a famous person ever had an effect on you? Who was it and how did you feel?

Yes, though it’s normally fleeting. I don’t really know the celebrities after all.

3. If you could BE a famous person for 24 hours, who would you choose?

I have no idea.

4. Do people ever tell you that you look like someone famous? Who?

No I don’t get this.

5. Have you ever met anyone famous?

Nope. Closest I’ve come to that is Willie Thorne. :)
