John Thaw dies

The death of veteran actor John Thaw was announced by his family yesterday, coming at the age of 60 after a battle against cancer. Some tributes from fellow actors and friends can be seen here and there is a short biography here. During his life he became well known in many households for his realistic portrayals of police characters.

Elsewhere, the British have won their first Winter Olympic gold medal since way back in 1984. This time it’s for women’s curling. Well done folks!

Something I can completely understand is this article from BBC news that suggests that the net is giving us the attention span of goldfish. The plethora of choice on the Internet means that people quickly flit between things, and this discourages longer attention spans when you come to do other activities. I can surely attest to this, my attention span has dropped right down, and I often find myself switching to other things on the net without really finishing each one. (This is probably just me being really forgetful though.)

Lastly, via Blogdex this page here tells you which Dungeons and Dragons character you are. It lists your equivalent race, alignment and class. Nice. Despite my almost always playing clerics in role playing games, my character is apparently a Lawful Neutral Half-Elf Ranger Fighter, someone who believes in the triumph of law and order above all else, has the curious drive of humans and the patience of elves, and acts as a defender of nature and the elements (whilst using violence.). An odd combination, methinks. Just like me. :)

Rain experiment results later, after I get back from the gym.
