Coming up empty

Thursday, February 28th, 2002

It’s another dry down down here.

There’s really nothing for me to ramble on about today that I feel I should burden you with. I might have more later, or most likely tomorrow afternoon, when I launch the first Item Of Cheap Plastic Stuff!

Hunting

Wednesday, February 27th, 2002

Well, some news is coming through that it looks like some kind of ban on hunting with dogs could be forced through into law over here in England, following where the Scots lead a few weeks ago. (About time, methinks.) More on this should appear over the next few days. The possibility is some kind of ban by 2003 even without the agreement of the House of Lords.

Since when?

Did a “stone throwing” mob set fire to things? Well, that’s what seems to have happened to this train carrying Hindu activists in India. I can only imagine that they were flaming rocks that were being thrown. I notice that this seems to be action between two religious groups. Are we seeing yet another case of so-called religious differences here then? Another religion that approves of killing? Or are we just seeing another example of angry mob rule, something that seems to be increasingly common these days, especially if the angry mob happens to have a convinient religious banner to hide behind.

Rainfall results from today : No rain. Try telling that to Long Eaton though (where I work) which had one of the main roads into town (which I use) cut off by a flood. Lots of messing around this morning and evening getting to and from work. (grr)

The new formula one season kicks off on the 3rd March in Australia, and this link is the BBC I’s interactive guide to the season. It’s fairly impressive, with all the teams, drivers and circuits and spoken commentry and what not to get you revved up. :)
Meanwhile, as STDs become even more popular (popular is not the right word, of course - prolific maybe.) mainly because people aren’t taking precautions, researchers are now suggesting that sex education should begin at school even from the age of five. (Can people even have sex that early? what *is* happening with the world?)

Apparently nowadays we are not saving enough for our pensions and the average 25 year old (which I suppose is almost me) putting by 11% of his earnings (which I’m not doing and really need to start) will have to work for 47 years to gain a pension worth 2/3 his income. This means working until around 70, or something similar. Which is erksome. I definitely *need* to move into something better paid and start saving more, and get some sort of product that makes *real* money instead of pittance wages.

Of course if it all gets too much you can always find out here how many of various caffeinated drinks it will take to kill you. I don’t endorse or recommend caffeine death, but I suppose it might be useful to know just in case you ever think you’re drinking too much cola. (It’s many more bottles to die of caffeine than it is to die of other stuff, like too much sugar.)

Female Asian women are apparently using the internet as well as other people. Who would have thought it? Actually the news article is about the growth in Asian women using Internet chat rooms. I’m not really sure why it’s surprising, a chat room is as good a way to communicate as any other, and probably cheaper and easier than some. Use in Hong Kong is apparently going up quite fast indeed.

Lastly it was another stupid weather day over here, with big silly wind causing havok over the UK and generally making it a pain to drive to and from work. In amongst all the wind, the rain dropped me

10 ml in device 1 and
13 ml in device 2.

So there we have another day. Enjoy.

Much puddles

Monday, February 25th, 2002

Many puddles must have been formed by the 35 or 37 ml of rain that fell yesterday, depending on which device you collect it from.

It was pretty dire driving back home after work, spray everywhere and the usual idiots on the road. grr. I’m all awaiting when we get to stay at home and work there….. :)
